Faithful reader Steve has informed me that¬†he saw a sign near 93rd St. and 4th Ave. in Brooklyn, New York that said shooting will start Monday, December 7. I’m not encouraging anybody to try to sneak on set and take pictures or anything, as the cast and crew obviously have enough to deal with, but since the information is on a public sign, I decied it would be alright to post.

FIRST POST!!!

November 3, 2009

Hello, fans of Ned Vizzini’s book, “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story”! Did ya know they’re making a movie based on the critically-acclaimed book?¬†Well, if you didn’t, now you do! This blog will be the unofficial site to get all the latest news on the upcoming movie!

What, you’ve never heard of this book? Do you live under a rock or something? And if you do, how did you get internet access? Anyway, here’s the story: Craig is a 15-year-old New Yorker accepted into Executive Pre-Professional High School, a very tough advanced school. Though Craig is very intelligent, the schoolwork, along with various other problems in his life, cause him to become suicidal. One night, he¬†decides jump off the Brooklyn Bridge, but instead calls the suicide hotline. He ends up¬†checking himself into¬†a psychiatric hospital, but the ward for teens is down for renovation, so he ends up in Six North, the adult psychiatric ward. What awaits him in Six North? Well, if you’ve read the book, you already know, and if you haven’t, I’m not gonna spoil it for you!

So, what do we know about the movie so far? It’s being released by Focus Features (Brokeback Mountain, Coraline, Burn After Reading) and is slated for a release sometime in 2011. It will be directed by Ryan Fleck (director of Sugar, Half Nelson, and quite fittingly, a few episodes of “In Treatment”) and written by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Here’s the confirmed cast:

Keir Gilchrist (“United States Of Tara”) will play Craig.

Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) will play Bobby.

Emma Roberts (Hotel For Dogs) will play Noelle.

Zoe Kravitz (The Brave One) will play Nia.

Viola Davis (Doubt) will play Dr. Minerva.

Aasif Mandvi (The Proposal) will play Dr. Mahmoud.

Lauren Graham (Because I Said So) and Jim Gaffigan (Away We Go) will play Craig’s parents.

Shooting in New York is expected to start in December.
